The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has reaffirmed its dedication to uniting African nations and enhancing global competitiveness through music.
At a media event in Lagos, Nigeria, Mr Mike Dada, President of AFRIMA, shared the organisation’s vision. He highlighted that the awards go beyond merely celebrating musical talent; they aim to convey the true African narrative through the influence of music.
Dada articulated that music, while often viewed as a source of entertainment, is an essential tool for positioning Africa more competitively within the global creative economy. He stated, “AFRIMA is a platform that brings together the continent through music, and our goal is to authentically narrate the African experience, which extends beyond mere entertainment.”
He further clarified that while artists play a vital role, the awards are not solely centred around them but reflect the essence of African identity. “With AFRIMA, we are not just recognising talent; we are transforming perceptions of Africa, generating employment opportunities, and fostering connections between nations,” he added.
Additionally, Dada stressed the importance of strategic partnerships with the media, industry experts, government, and other stakeholders to ensure the platform’s success.
Mr. Steve Ayorinde, Chairman of the International Media Committee of AFRIMA, also addressed the gathering, urging the media to actively promote positive narratives about Africa. He encouraged the documentation of annual activities to highlight and preserve the contributions of the awards to African music and culture.
Since its launch, AFRIMA has consistently endeavoured to uplift African music, culture, and identity globally while promoting national unity. The awards ceremony is set to take place in Lagos from November 25 to November 30.
