MTN Group Accelerates Fibre X Deployment To Boost Broadband Access

In response to a strong performance in the first half of 2025, MTN Group, the largest telecommunications company in Africa, is accelerating the deployment of Fibre X in Nigeria, its most profitable market.

Fibre X is an initiative designed to make fibre internet access affordable for a wide range of consumers in Nigeria, especially targeting underserved middle-income households and high-income residents.

MTN aims to enhance access to high-quality broadband services for all Nigerians. The company predicts a significant increase in data usage and demand for internet services from homes over the next three to five years.

This initiative is expected to greatly improve broadband service quality and contribute positively to the digital economy. MTN is resolutely committed to becoming the top broadband provider in Nigeria.

Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, stated, “As families increasingly work, learn, stream, and connect from home, the demand for reliable data will only continue to rise. At MTN, we deliver solutions that keep our customers ahead of the curve.

“We are advancing FibreX, our broadband offering across Nigeria, to ensure fast and unlimited internet access that empowers homes and communities.”

Ralph Mupita, CEO of MTN Group, added, “FibreX is coming to Nigeria. We are committed to providing leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress.”

Previously known as MTN Fibre Broadband, FibreX underscores the company’s dedication to providing ultra-fast, reliable, and accessible internet services that align with Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan (NBP) for 2020-2025.

The NBP aims to achieve 70% broadband coverage by 2025, establishing minimum speeds of 25 Mbps in urban areas and 10 Mbps in rural regions.
