Renowned hip-hop artist Jude “MI” Abaga is set to debut in a lead voice role in the animated feature Gammy and the Living Things, scheduled for release in Nigerian cinemas on September 5. In this ambitious project, he will be joined by a distinguished lineup of Nollywood talents, including Joke Silva, Bovi Ugboma, and Pete Edochie, as stated by FilmOne Entertainment, who describe the film as Nigeria’s most significant animated endeavour to date.

At the narrative’s core is Jude “MI” Abaga’s character Gammy, an aspiring agama lizard with dreams extending beyond his natural habitat’s limitations. The film combines humour, music, and emotional depth, chronicling Gammy’s journey to Lagos, addressing relatable challenges while celebrating rich cultural themes. Casting industry luminaries such as Joke Silva, comedian Bovi Ugboma, and celebrated actor Pete Edochie adds star power and artistic gravitas to the project.

Commenting on the film’s release, Victoria Ogar, Head of Distribution at FilmOne Entertainment, highlighted the importance of this project for the Nigerian film industry. “Gammy reflects the core of Nigerian storytelling, showcasing narratives that resonate with global audiences while maintaining local relevance. This film clearly indicates that African animation can compete on the international stage.”

Kene Okwuosa, Group Chief Executive Officer of Filmhouse Group, which encompasses Filmhouse Cinema, FilmOne Entertainment, and FilmOne Studios, articulated that the film aligns with a broader vision of establishing a comprehensive African film ecosystem. “At Filmhouse, our constant objective has been to amplify Nollywood and enhance its visibility on a global scale. The introduction of Gammy and The Living Things to cinemas exemplifies our commitment to exploring new genres and ensuring that African creativity is appropriately valued.”

With FilmOne Entertainment leading the distribution efforts, Gammy & The Living Things is poised to mark a significant milestone in the evolution of Nigerian animation and cinema.

Starting September 5, 2025, audiences across Nigeria will be able to experience Gammy & The Living Things in theatres.
