AREWA24 Launches Its First New Original Northern Nigerian Drama Series, Jos Chronicles, In English

AREWA24, the leading 24/7 Hausa-language family entertainment and lifestyle television network and production studio in Nigeria and across West Africa, announces the launch of its first original English-language drama series, “Jos Chronicles,” set in the iconic northern Nigerian city of Jos.

“Jos Chronicles” follows the lives of five close friends as they chase their dreams, navigate relationships and pursue their ambitions in a city where anything seems possible. Season 1 of the 13-episode, hour–long series was shot entirely on location in the heart of Jos, in Nigeria’s Plateau State, a city renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and its vibrant entertainment scene.  While AREWA24’s popular hit Hausa drama series continues to dominate the ratings and excite Hausa-speaking television viewers in Northern Nigeria and West Africa, Jos Chronicles is AREWA24’s first series produced in English and aimed at broader African and global audiences. The series was written by Nenrot Goyol Akinrowo and directed by Salisu Balarabe.

“Jos Chronicles is the first of many new AREWA24 drama series and film projects that tell authentic Northern Nigerian stories, but are aimed at much broader audiences,” says Celestine Umeibe, AREWA24’s CEO. Jos Chronicles’ focus on youthful themes of love and relationships, dreams and ambitions, loss and redemption, resonates throughout Africa and globally. The production of Jos Chronicles is AREWA24’s first step in developing high-quality dramas and films, in English and Hausa, for local and global audiences, all from our world-class production studios in Kano, Nigeria.”

AREWA24 is also producing its first feature film, “The Jaru Road,” for distribution throughout Africa and across global markets.  The Jaru Road is a powerful, authentic, and transformational Northern Nigerian story that will break new ground in storytelling.  AREWA24 has partnered with the renowned Director, Kenneth Gyang (“The Lost Café,” “Oluture,” “This is Lagos”), and his production company, Cinema Kpatakpata, for The Jaru Road, which is being produced in Hausa.  The Jaru Road is the first of four new feature films that AREWA24 has planned for the months ahead and into 2026, including two in Hausa and two in English.

“There are so many incredible stories to tell from our part of Northern Nigeria and West Africa, and with themes that, while authentically local, will resonate with broader African and global audiences,” says Jacob Arback, AREWA24’s Executive Vice Chairman. “We are passionate about showcasing other sides of our rich local cultures and sharing the humanity of our people in ways that are rarely seen in different parts of Africa and certainly not in the West.   We believe The Jaru Road can also open up a new genre of African films for local filmmakers, resonating far and wide, while showcasing local Nigerian and West African stories and being produced to the highest international quality standards. “

Season 1 of Jos Chronicles is now available for licensing, and the second season is currently being scripted.  The Jaru Road will be available for distribution later this year.

ABOUT AREWA24: AREWA24 and its production arm, AREWA24 Productions, were launched in 2014 to fill a glaring void in authentic, locally produced, and high-quality Hausa language entertainment and lifestyle programming that reflects pride in Northern Nigerian life, culture, music, film, art, cooking, and sports.   Today, AREWA24 reaches 45+ million Hausa speakers in Nigeria and West Africa through its free-to-air broadcast on the Eutelsat 16a satellite, on the StarTimes payTV bouquet (channel#138), the two Multichoice payTV platforms, DStv (channel #261) and GOtv (channel #136), and on the Canal+ payTV service (channel #297) in Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Niger, and Togo. AREWA24 benefits from active and high audience engagement across its digital platforms at www.AREWA24.COM,  www.facebook.com/AREWA24, and  Instagram.com/AREWA24channel.

AREWA24 also operates a global streaming service, AREWA24 On Demand, in partnership with Vimeo. To subscribe to the worldwide streaming service AREWA24 ON DEMAND, go to http://tv.arewa24.com or download the app from the iOS App Store, Google Play, Apple TV, Roku Channel Store, or Amazon Fire TV.
