NOTICE: Audience Volume vs Engagement: Understanding Who Was Listening/Watching

The metric for measuring success with audiences in the digital broadcast media landscape has been transformed. As we approach the industry conference on Advertising and Audiences Management for Digital Broadcast Media conference, scheduled for 06 – 07 August 2024 at The Venue Green Park in Johannesburg, South Africa, the event will delve into, among other matters, the intricacies of understanding the distinction between audience volume and engagement can provide invaluable insights for advertisers and broadcasters, addressing the current needs of our industry.

For broadcasters and advertisers, high audience volume is attractive as it indicates a wide reach, potentially translating to more significant brand exposure. However, this metric alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Knowing who is watching or listening is essential, but it’s only the first step.

Speaking on this, Mr Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, said, “For effective audience management, balancing volume and engagement is key. High volume with low engagement might indicate that while many people are exposed to the content, it fails to capture their interest. Conversely, high engagement with low volume might suggest a niche but highly dedicated audience.”

As we convene at the conference, we will underscore the importance of attracting a large audience and keeping them engaged. By doing so, we can ensure sustained success in an increasingly competitive landscape. Your presence and participation are crucial to this discourse.

This gathering will bring together major players in the broadcasting, publishing, production, telecommunications, branding and regulatory environment.
