SuperSport Rekindles NBA Partnership In Africa After Nine-Year Hiatus

SuperSport is set to broadcast the National Basketball Association (NBA) in Africa for the first time in nine years following a new rights agreement with the league.

Since the 2015/16 season, SuperSport has not aired NBA games in Africa. However, the network will soon resume its role as the broadcast partner for the North American basketball league, coinciding with the league’s plans to expand by introducing franchises in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

There is a strong representation of African talent in the NBA, with over 55 players currently in the league hailing from Africa or having at least one parent from the continent.

This new agreement not only marks SuperSport’s comeback but also enhances Canal+’s NBA portfolio in Africa, as the parent company continues its commitment to providing top-tier sports content. Canal+ already handles the NBA’s French-language broadcasts in the region.

Rendani Ramovha, the director of sports content for English and Portuguese-speaking Africa at Canal+, remarked, “The return of the NBA to SuperSport is a significant milestone that highlights our dedication to delivering premier global sports to audiences across the continent. This deal is crucial for the advancement of basketball in Africa, and we are thrilled to once again provide our viewers with access to the thrilling pace, skill, and excitement of the world’s most captivating basketball league.”
