‘The Specialists’, a compelling political thriller from Nollywood, has been officially nominated for seven awards at the upcoming International Black and Diversity Film Festival (IBDFF) in Canada, ahead of its global debut.
This announcement came from Mr Paulgold Joseph, founder of AFRIGOS Film Studios and the film’s producer. He emphasised that the film’s early international acclaim underscores its growing significance in cinema.
“Our vision with ‘The Specialists’ was to narrate a powerful African story that resonates globally,” Joseph stated. “This recognition in Canada strongly validates that vision, and we are enthusiastic about the promising opportunities that await us.”
As the film gears up for its official release, anticipation is building, and Joseph notes that ‘The Specialists’ is set to leave a lasting impression on audiences worldwide. The film is currently in talks for international distribution, sales representation, and strategic alliances across various platforms, including theatrical releases, streaming services, and television.
This achievement not only solidifies AFRIGOS Films’ reputation as a production company dedicated to creating commercially viable, globally competitive African content but also showcases the collaborative spirit of the film with El-Sueno Films, aimed at merging African storytelling with international cinematic standards.
Directed and produced by Joseph, ‘The Specialists’ dives deep into the political crime thriller genre, exploring themes of power, loyalty, corruption, and the human costs associated with control in a high-stakes political arena. The film features a talented cast, including veteran actor Sam Dede, Bimbo Akintola, Francis Duru, and Baaj Adebule.
The screenplay is crafted by Emil Garuba, known for notable works like ‘Lionheart’, ‘4th Republic’, and ‘Road to Yesterday’, in collaboration with his brother, Echobu Garuba. The production employed advanced filming technology, with post-production taking place across Nigeria, Turkey, and the United States.
