In a groundbreaking move, SuperSport, a subsidiary of the MultiChoice Group and CANAL+, is set to deliver unprecedented live coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to viewers across English and Portuguese-speaking Africa. For the first time, all 104 matches of this expanded global tournament will be accessible to DStv and GOtv subscribers, marking a historic moment for African football fans.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will kick off on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City, and continue through the final match in New Jersey on July 19, 2026. This edition of the tournament will see an increase in participating countries, expanding from 32 to 48 teams. With this expansion comes the most extended World Cup in history, offering a record number of matches for fans to enjoy.

SuperSport’s coverage caters to all DStv subscribers, from the DStv Access package to the Premium option. Subscribers will have access to live matches, highlights, and repeat broadcasts, making this World Cup the most inclusive yet for MultiChoice Group customers. The excitement is palpable, as on-screen appearances will feature renowned Hollywood star Idris Elba, who was unveiled as a brand ambassador for the tournament, underscoring the event’s significance to African audiences.

The World Cup will also mark a high point in African representation, with 10 nations qualifying from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). These teams include Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This diverse and talented group promises to bring a vibrant flair to the tournament, amplifying Africa’s presence on the global stage.

In anticipation of this unique event, SuperSport has planned an array of engaging programming, including new magazine shows and masterclasses featuring local and international football experts. Rendani Ramovha, Director for Content, Sports at CANAL+, expressed pride in delivering the World Cup experience to African audiences. He added, “With Africa sending its largest delegation to the tournament, we are eager to provide viewers with an exhilarating broadcast that celebrates football as part of our rich cultural heritage.”

To enhance the viewer experience, DStv will introduce special features tailored to various African cultures and languages. This commitment to inclusivity aims to ensure that fans connect with the tournament in multiple ways.

For those wanting to keep up with all the updates leading up to and throughout the World Cup, they can visit www.supersport.com. Additionally, interested viewers can find details on how to watch all 104 live matches via the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps or on the respective websites for DStv and GOtv. The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be an unforgettable celebration of sport and culture for all African fans.
