Cameroon: 45 Films In Competition At YARHA Festival

The Yarha Festival kicked off on January 25, unveiling its latest edition, “The Cinema of Tomorrow in Africa: Innovation, Solidarity, Excellence.” This 12th edition features 45 films selected from over 110 submissions from 18 different countries. Through a series of screenings, professional gatherings, and workshops, the festival reaffirms its dedication to advancing the evolution of the African film industry.

“The cinema of tomorrow cannot rely on the formulas of the past. Innovation transcends technology, which we are exploring this year with our workshops focused on artificial intelligence,” shares Sylvie Nwet, the festival’s promoter.

The Yarha Festival also serves as a vital platform for discovering and nurturing young talent, partnering with cultural institutions and industry stakeholders. Special competitions, training workshops, and professional networking opportunities are designed to foster new voices and create sustainable career paths for creators. In this capacity, the festival positions itself as a driving force within the cinematic value chain. “The Yarha Festival is a place to uncover new talent. It acts as a breeding ground. Once a film garners an award, it often secures support from institutions and partners, allowing it to gain visibility and success,” explains Martin Poulibe, President of the Jury.

Beyond its artistic focus, the Yarha Festival aspires to serve as a structural and promotional instrument for African cinema, facilitating collaboration, encouraging excellence, and driving innovation. With an anticipated attendance of over 3,000—including professionals, students, and the general public—the 2026 edition aims to enhance connections between creation, training, and distribution. By doing so, Yarha establishes itself as a pivotal venue for envisioning and shaping the future of African cinema.
