Netflix Unveils New South African Slate As It Marks 10 Years In The Country

Netflix has unveiled a new slate of South African films and television series for 2026 as the global streaming platform celebrates a decade of operations in the country.

The announcement, made at an event in Johannesburg, highlights a mix of returning favourites, new original productions, reality formats and partnerships with leading South African production companies.

Among the upcoming releases is Blood Legacy Season 2, premiering on 25 September, which sees the Ndlovu family return as their business empire, power and survival come under renewed threat. Other confirmed titles include Seriously Single Too, the sequel to the 2020 romantic comedy Seriously Single, and Another Disaster Holiday, which premieres on 11 December.

Netflix will also expand its popular How to Ruin comedy universe with How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents, premiering on 30 October. Produced by Burnt Onion Productions in collaboration with producer Jayan Moodley of The Kandasamys, the series follows an interracial couple whose engagement brings two very different families and cultures together.

The streamer has also confirmed the second seasons of Tuiskoms and Marked, as well as Meet the Khumalos 2, all of which are currently in production.

Reality programming will feature prominently in the new slate. Netflix has unveiled Dineo and Zothile “Solo Ntsizwa” Langa as hosts of Love Is Blind: South Africa, the first African edition of the global reality franchise. Produced by afrOkaans, the series will follow singles as they attempt to find love and choose a partner to marry before meeting face-to-face. The series is scheduled to launch later in 2026.

Another unscripted title, Stars and Vows: Anele & Buzza, will follow television and radio personality Anele Mdoda and Bonelela “Buzza James” Mgudlwa as they prepare for their wedding.

Netflix is also expanding its local production network. BrightFire Productions is developing a new dating reality series, while Bomb Shelter Film Productions, known for productions including Shaka iLembe, Red Ink and Isibaya, has signed a deal with Netflix for a new scripted series. The streamer has also entered into a multi-title partnership with Tshedza Pictures, the production company behind Youngins, Adulting and The River, covering four scripted series.

The expanded slate comes as Netflix marks ten years since launching in South Africa in 2016. According to the company, it has since brought more than 300 local titles to its service, worked with more than 30 South African production companies and supported over 8,000 jobs across the local creative economy.

Netflix also highlighted the recent performance of The Polygamist, which the company says generated more than 24 million views in its first weeks, reached the Top 10 in 62 countries and ranked No. 1 in more than 21 countries. Based on Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi’s 2012 novel, the series reportedly contributed to a threefold increase in book sales following its release.

“Ten years ago, we set out to share South African stories and voices with the world, and today, we are proud to strengthen our partnership with the local creative industry and continue creating exciting stories that will entertain our members in South Africa and around the world,” said Ben Amadasun, VP of Content for Netflix Middle East and Africa.

“Our slate ahead keeps that ambition alive with the addition of established names alongside bold new production partners across genres from unscripted to thrillers, family dramas and comedy.”
