YouTube Unveils Major Design Overhaul And New Features

October 16, 2025
Reading Time: 2 mins read
A A

YouTube is undergoing a significant overhaul, introducing a fresh visual appearance and new features across its mobile, web, and TV applications. The aim is to create a cleaner user experience, enhance interactions, and incorporate custom animations for likes, all while streamlining the comments section.

The most noticeable change for users will be the redesigned video player. The new controls are more streamlined and less visually distracting, allowing the content to occupy the spotlight. The buttons and icons have been adjusted for better readability and occupy less space, catering especially to users on smaller mobile devices.

In addition to the new look, the platform is enhancing its “double-tap to skip” functionality. This common gesture for advancing videos will now be more fluid and intuitive. Improved motion design will also make navigating through tabs like “Home,” “Shorts,” and “Subscriptions” swifter and more seamless.

But YouTube isn’t just about aesthetic upgrades; it adds fun to user engagement. With the revamped service, users will experience unique animations when they hit the “like” button on select videos. For instance, a music video might trigger a floating musical note animation, while a sports highlight could unleash a graphic related to the game. Although minor, these animations bring a distinctive flair to the user experience.

Saving videos has been made simpler, with enhancements to the Watch Later and playlist features. The new layout allows users to add videos to their lists more efficiently without interrupting their viewing experience.

Furthermore, YouTube is refining the way users interact with comments. The updated threading system organises replies more neatly, making it easier to track discussions. Users can quickly see who responds to whom, improving overall community interaction.
