Mohamed Adam Moalim, the ICT minister of Somalia, initiated the National Multi-Stakeholder Consultation yesterday in partnership with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). This initiative will approve the nation’s digital transformation strategy for 2025-2030.
The Ministry of Communications and Technology highlighted that this initiative is vital to enhancing digital inclusion in Somalia, emphasising the importance of collaborative efforts, capacity building, and fostering a strong relationship with the ITU.
Moalim stated that the new strategy will serve as a comprehensive framework for all ICT initiatives in Somalia. He stressed the need for coordinated policies, investment in digital infrastructure, and the development of human resources to enhance service delivery and stimulate economic growth in the East African nation.
The minister also pointed out the critical role of close international collaboration, which he believes is essential for creating a modern, inclusive, and resilient digital system.
During this consultation, discussions will focus on Somalia’s digital vision, strategic pillars, and implementation plan, emphasising governance structures and financial mechanisms and ensuring alignment between the national digital strategy and those of the African Union and the East African Community.
“I am excited to launch the National Multi-Stakeholder Consultation in collaboration with the ITU to validate Somalia’s Digital Transformation Strategy. This is a crucial step toward fostering digital inclusion,” remarked Moalim.
