Airtel Uganda has showcased remarkable interim results for the first six months ending June 30, 2025. The company’s emphasis is on its expanding market presence, and it has announced a substantial dividend distribution of US$48.9 million.
The telco’s customer base has increased by 14.7% to 17.9 million. Notably, the number of data users has surged by 25.9% to 7.5 million. The average data consumption per customer rose by 22.6% to 5.95GB, contributing to a 57.4% increase in total network data traffic.
This growth trajectory has positioned data services as the primary revenue engine, compensating for declining voice revenues due to a regulatory adjustment in interconnect rates, which dropped from US$0.013 to US$0.007 last year.
For the reporting period, revenue increased by 12.3% to reach US$282 million, while data revenue surged by 30.4%, totalling US$137 million. EBITDA also increased by 19.3% to US$147 million, with the margin improving to 52.3%. Consequently, profit after tax soared by 28.7% to US$51 million.
Managing Director Soumendra Sahu attributed these achievements to Airtel’s dedication to enhancing customer experience and embracing digital innovation.
“Our strategy, centred on enriching our customers’ experiences, is yielding significant value for our customers and shareholders. With a 12.3% revenue growth and an EBITDA margin of 52.3% for H1 2025, we are strengthening our market foothold,” he stated.
Continuing its aggressive network expansion, Airtel has rolled out 176 new 4G sites along with 150 5G sites, extending its fibre backbone by 1,793 km. This development has increased Airtel’s 4G coverage to 91.5% of Uganda’s population, ensuring that all sites have full 4G capabilities.
Adhering to its progressive dividend strategy, the Board declared an interim dividend of US$0.0007 for the latest quarter, bringing the total half-year dividend to US$0.0012 per share, totalling US$48.9 million.
This represents a 31.8% year-over-year increase, underscoring Airtel’s commitment to striking a balance between growth investments and robust shareholder returns.
Airtel Uganda’s achievements further establish the company as a crucial contributor to Uganda’s digital economy, driven by a strong demand for data and the introduction of innovative services, including Africa’s first AI-powered Spam Alert tool.
