In a key move to bolster digital sovereignty and enhance cross-border telecommunications, the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP) of Chad and the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART) of Cameroon have successfully conducted a joint technical mission focused on frequency coordination and minimising radio-electric signal interference along their shared border.
This mission, from June 30 to July 8, 2025, stemmed from commitments made during a high-level bilateral meeting on June 16.
Led by Idriss Béchir Soumaine, Director of Radiocommunications and Normalisation at ARCEP Chad, and Mouhamadou Awallou, Technical Advisor #1 at ART Cameroon, the initiative brought together key regulatory officials and representatives from major telecom operators, including Airtel Chad, Moov Africa Chad, MTN Cameroon, Orange Cameroon, and CAMTEL.
This collaboration’s primary objective was to address radio-electric signal intrusion in border areas, particularly in the key urban centres of N’Djamena and Kousseri.
The teams engaged in comprehensive field operations and conducted signal assessments (drive-tests) to evaluate the effects of penetrating 2G, 3G, and 4G signals in these locations.
