Amazon Prime Video Launches X-Ray Recaps Using Generative AI – Report

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled a new feature called X-Ray Recaps, utilising generative AI technology to help viewers stay updated on their favourite TV shows without revealing spoilers. This innovative addition enhances the existing X-Ray functionality by delivering personalised and concise summaries of episodes, entire seasons, or specific scenes, highlighting key plot developments, cliffhangers, and character arcs.

According to a recent blog post from Amazon, “X-Ray Recaps offers brief, easily digestible summaries tailored to the exact moment where you are in your viewing experience, whether it’s a full season, an individual episode, or a specific segment.”

Using Amazon’s Bedrock AI, along with custom AI models and SageMaker models, X-Ray Recaps intelligently analyses segments of video content, dialogue, and subtitles to create informative yet succinct recaps. This allows users to seamlessly pick up where they left off without needing to rewatch previous content or scour the internet for summaries. Amazon has emphasised that measures are in place to ensure these summaries remain spoiler-free and concise.

Adam Gray, Vice President of Product at Prime Video, stated, “Our product and technology teams are dedicated to improving the viewer experience. With the launch of X-Ray Recaps, we’re addressing a frequent challenge customers face: losing track of where they are in a show.”

The X-Ray Recaps feature can be accessed from the Prime Video detail page or during playback. It builds on the platform’s original X-Ray tool, which provides viewers with cast details, trivia, and production insights. This new feature aims to alleviate the common issue of forgetting plot details between episodes, allowing fans to stay engaged with their favourite series.

Currently in beta, X-Ray Recaps will begin rolling out to Fire TV users in the U.S. on November 4, with plans to support additional devices by the end of the year.
