Ghana Launches 5G Technology For Digital Inclusion And Economic Growth

Ghana has made a significant advancement towards achieving a digitally inclusive future by launching 5G technology.

During an event attended by key industry stakeholders, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo highlighted the transformative potential of 5G in Ghana’s ambition to establish itself as a digital economy hub. He articulated that 5G represents much more than enhanced internet speeds, asserting that it can deliver comprehensive services and connectivity on a large scale.

With capabilities up to 100 times faster than 4G, 5G is expected to revolutionise various sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and security, fundamentally altering how Ghanaians live, work, and connect.

The President underscored the crucial role of 5G in advancing Ghana’s Digital Transformation Agenda. This agenda is geared towards creating an inclusive digital ecosystem to drive job creation, foster economic diversification, and enhance the nation’s global competitiveness.

“We stand at a pivotal moment; digital technology is no longer a choice but a necessity,” he stated, emphasising that 5G will build on existing national investments in digital infrastructure, national identification systems, and mobile interoperability.

For small and medium-sized enterprises—an essential part of Ghana’s economy—5G presents a valuable opportunity to broaden market access, refine logistics, and enhance scalability. President Akufo-Addo referred to 5G as a “catalyst for industrial growth.”

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation, reflected on the journey from 1G to 5G as a testament to Ghana’s relentless pursuit of development and success. She stated, “Each technological advancement has drawn us closer, empowered us, and broadened our horizons. As we advance, let us leverage the transformative power of 5G to inspire innovation, boost economic growth, and enhance the lives of all Ghanaians.”
