Netflix Introduces “Moments” Feature For Easy Scene Sharing

Netflix has unveiled a new feature called “Moments” on its mobile app, enabling users to easily share notable scenes from movies and TV shows with friends and on social media. Originally starting as a video rental service in the late 1990s, Netflix has evolved into the largest streaming platform, featuring a wealth of acclaimed original content, such as The Irishman (2019), Red Notice (2021), and The Gray Man (2022), alongside popular series like Stranger Things, Squid Game, Wednesday, and Bridgerton.

As reported by Variety, the Moments feature debuted on the Netflix iOS app on Monday, October 28, with an Android version on the way. This feature allows users to bookmark their favourite scenes while watching on their phones, saving them to a dedicated section called “My Netflix” for easy access later. It also facilitates sharing these memorable clips across platforms like Instagram and Facebook, creating a new way for fans to engage with their favourite content. Netflix plans to enhance this feature to offer even more ways for users to enjoy and share their top moments.

Marian Lee, Netflix’s Chief Marketing Officer, elaborated on the unique aspects of Moments, highlighting how it resonates with user engagement: “You know that moment when a scene, character, or quote just sticks with you, prompting you to text your friends about it? Whether it’s for Halloween costume inspiration or a TikTok trend, the passionate fandoms we see exemplify what makes Netflix special. Our new campaign is designed to celebrate these unforgettable moments, reminding you of the excitement when you first discovered a captivating series on Netflix.”

In addition, Giancarlo Esposito, part of the “It’s So Good” campaign promoting Moments, shared his insights: “I truly believe there’s something special that happens when a captivating story finds its audience on Netflix. Suddenly, everyone is engrossed, and that enthusiasm only grows.”

Olympic champion Simone Biles commented, “When I get hooked on a story, I want to dive deep into it. I often see a scene and need to discuss it with someone. Like everyone else, I’m an avid fan of great shows.”

As Netflix remains a leader in the streaming sector, competing with services like Prime Video, Disney+, and Max, the Moments feature might provide a further edge. Scenes from various shows are already going viral on platforms like Twitter, so this innovation simplifies user participation and could enhance Netflix’s reach significantly.

The upcoming release of Squid Game Season 2 will serve as a significant test for the effectiveness of this new feature, further amplified by the anticipated arrival of Stranger Things Season 5 next year. Although there is a possibility that this could lead to more spoilers circulating on social media, the potential for greater visibility of certain titles appears promising.

While it remains to be seen if Moments will apply to all titles on Netflix or just originals, it might set a trend that other streaming services will follow. In an era where social media plays a pivotal role in entertainment, making scenes shareable is a logical step.

With the Moments feature now live on Netflix’s iOS app, it seems like a natural progression for users who want to engage further with the content they love.
