Broadcast Media Africa has learnt that Angola Cables’ network has reached a record-breaking 18,448 Tbps of data traffic, propelling the company’s AS Number to the 24th rank globally by the CAIDA. This achievement solidifies Angola Cables as the sole African network operator within the top 50. The surge in digital content consumption, expansion of cloud computing services, and increasing demand for high-speed, low-latency connectivity have contributed to this milestone.
Fernando Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer for TelCables Nigeria, emphasised the company’s heightened focus on customer needs in West African markets, highlighting improved Service Level Agreements (SLA). He underscored their reliability as an operator and commitment to connectivity, security, and product diversity, reinforcing TelCables Nigeria’s reputation as a trusted name in the market.
Rui Faria, Executive Board member and Chief Commercial Officer for Angola Cables, has highlighted the significant growth in overall traffic over their backbone network. This growth, coupled with the utilization of SACS, Monet, and WACS cables by hyperscalers, content providers, and carriers, has positioned these cables as a reliable redundancy option to connect to destinations in the USA, UK, and Europe. He also noted their role in handling over 70% of internet and data traffic to and from Africa.
Furthermore, the Monet Cable linking the USA to South America has experienced a notable increase in traffic, accounting for over 20% of data flow between North and South America. With the option to connect to major European hubs via the EllaLink subsea cable and reduced latencies of around 30%, many companies consider this a favourable choice for their peering and IP Transit needs.
Angola Cables’ AS number is now ranked 24th globally by the Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA), recognizing the extensive reach of their network, spanning over 80,000 km of subsea cables with multiple connections to an increasing number of data centres and global IXPs. This surge in traffic positions Angola Cables as a reliable network service provider in both the international and African markets, enabling further expansion of services and strategic partnerships to better serve their customers.
