South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) Group CEO, Nomsa Chabeli, recently said the corporation is engaging Sentech to help resolve the broadcasting spectrum challenges.

Sentech is a signal distribution company that provides broadcast transmission services to the South African public broadcaster.

BMA understands that the SABC owes Sentech almost US$53 million, of which the SABC currently pays Sentech US$1 million a month but still has outstanding bills to the entity.

“So we were talking about Sentech’s challenges. I have good news for you. As I stand here, we are busy working on a proposal to ensure that the challenges we are experiencing are fully addressed,” Chabeli explains.

SABC is funded in part or whole by the South African government.
