ITU And SES Strengthen Remote Connectivity And Digital Inclusion Partnership

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has reinforced its partnership with SES Satellites to advance efforts to enhance connectivity, promote digital inclusion, and bolster communication strategies for humanitarian responses. The collaboration aims to create better access to internet services, particularly in remote and underserved communities.

During a recent meeting in Luxembourg, Cosmas Zavazava, the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, engaged in productive discussions with SES CEO Adel Al Saleh. Their talks centred on joint initiatives to expand internet access, with a focus on supporting the connectivity needs of rural areas.

One prominent project stemming from this partnership is set to connect 100 schools across diverse regions, including Africa, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific. This initiative aims to improve access to digital learning resources, thereby promoting educational inclusion and enabling students to benefit from modern educational tools and opportunities.

Additionally, the ITU highlighted that this collaboration is pivotal to developing connectivity solutions that can be rapidly deployed during emergencies, which is critical for supporting humanitarian efforts and ensuring the continuity of essential services in times of crisis.

As discussions progressed, both ITU and SES explored further avenues for cooperation, aiming to scale inclusive digital development and address the pressing global connectivity gap. This partnership not only signifies a commitment to improving internet accessibility but also underscores the shared goal of fostering sustainable development through enhanced digital infrastructure. By prioritising the needs of remote communities and schools, the ITU and SES are taking significant steps toward a more connected and inclusive future.
