Canal+ Secures Exclusive Rights To Six Senegalese Wrestling Events Across Africa

Canal+ has secured exclusive broadcast rights to six major Senegalese wrestling events for the 2026–2027 season, expanding the sport’s reach across more than 40 French-, English- and Portuguese-speaking markets in sub-Saharan Africa.

The agreement with Dakar-based production company Beuz Pro will bring lutte avec frappe, Senegal’s popular form of wrestling that combines grappling with striking, to Canal+Sport channels in French and Wolof and SuperSport channels in English. Coverage begins in November, creating a wider regional distribution platform for a sport traditionally associated with Senegal.

The six-event slate opens on 29 November 2026 with The Verdict, featuring Ada Fass against Balla Gaye 2. On 3 January 2027, The Royal Clash will see Sa Thiès face Siteu. Further events include The Fight of the Millennium, featuring Franc against Reug Reug on 7 February, and The Independence Derby on 4 April, with Ama Baldé against Lac de Guiers 2 and Eumeu Sène against Jackson. Two additional major events are scheduled for June and July 2027.

The events are produced by Beuz Pro in collaboration with promoters Al Bourakh Events and Jambaar Productions. Canal+ Africa chief executive David Mignot and Beuz Pro chief executive Ibrahima Faye both highlighted the partnership’s potential to give Senegalese wrestling greater visibility across the continent.

The deal builds on Canal+’s earlier coverage of a Senegalese wrestling event on Canal+Sport 1 in April 2026. The new agreement extends that relationship through a defined slate of events, exclusive rights and distribution across multiple language markets.

For Canal+, the agreement also illustrates how its combined distribution footprint, following the integration of MultiChoice, can support the acquisition and delivery of African sports properties across linguistic boundaries. Rather than relying only on international sports rights, the group is adding a locally rooted sporting format with an established domestic following and potential to attract audiences elsewhere in Africa.

For African sports producers and rights holders, the arrangement highlights the value of packaging local competitions for broader regional distribution. Live wrestling offers broadcasters recurring event programming, while multilingual commentary can help make the product accessible to audiences beyond its home market. The commercial impact will depend on audience uptake, rights economics and the ability to convert expanded exposure into sustainable revenue.
