Industry Webinar To Explore What Really Drives Media Monetisation In Africa’s Evolving Audience Landscape

As media consumption becomes increasingly fragmented across broadcast, streaming and digital platforms, media organisations are under growing pressure to prove the value of their audiences in ways that resonate with advertisers and commercial partners. While audience reach remains important, the industry is increasingly asking whether engagement, loyalty and other performance indicators offer a more accurate measure of commercial value.

To unpack these issues, Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) will host an executive webinar, “Audience Volume vs Engagement: What Really Drives Monetisation?“, on Tuesday, 04 August 2026. The webinar will bring together broadcasters, media executives, advertisers and audience measurement specialists to examine how audience insights can be better leveraged to strengthen revenue generation and long-term business sustainability.

Among the key topics for discussion will be what audience metrics matter most in demonstrating value and driving monetisation success. As advertisers increasingly demand measurable outcomes from their investments, media organisations are being challenged to look beyond traditional audience figures and adopt more meaningful ways of assessing audience performance.

The discussion will explore how metrics such as engagement, viewing behaviour, retention, time spent with content and audience loyalty are influencing advertising decisions and commercial partnerships. Participants will also examine how first-party data, cross-platform audience measurement and advanced analytics are helping media businesses build a more comprehensive understanding of audience value in an increasingly digital marketplace.

According to Mr Benjamin Pius, Chief Executive Officer of Broadcast Media Africa, “The conversation is no longer simply about how many people consume content, but about how audiences interact with it and the value those interactions create. As the media ecosystem continues to evolve, organisations need to understand which audience metrics provide the strongest evidence of value and how they can use those insights to improve monetisation outcomes.”

The webinar will provide an opportunity for industry stakeholders to exchange perspectives on the changing expectations of advertisers, the evolution of audience measurement methodologies and the practical strategies media organisations can adopt to better demonstrate audience value. It will also consider how improved measurement frameworks can support stronger commercial relationships, more informed content strategies and sustainable revenue growth across Africa’s broadcasting and digital media sectors.

As competition for audiences and advertising investment continues to intensify, understanding which metrics truly matter has become a strategic priority for media organisations seeking to remain competitive. This webinar is expected to provide valuable insights into the future of audience measurement and its role in driving monetisation success across the continent.
