In Zambia, a landmark moment in cinema unfolded as the eagerly awaited political thriller ’77: The FESTAC Conspiracy premiered in grand style at the International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

The premiere served as a pivotal event for the Africa Creative Market (ACM) 2026, marking a significant milestone, as it was the first time this esteemed cross-continental market took place outside Nigeria. The film showcased a compelling narrative filled with political suspense while celebrating the vibrant Pan-African identity.

The energy in the room was palpable, with celebrated actors Rita Dominic and Ramsey Nouah captivating attendees on the red carpet, igniting a flurry of social media excitement amid a completely packed venue. Directed by Izu Ojukwu, this follow-up to the 2016 hit ’76 was met with overwhelming acclaim.

The event further establishes Zambia’s emerging reputation as a key player in the African entertainment industry while showcasing the powerful commercial potential of portraying African history on film.

“Tonight’s incredible warmth and enthusiasm from our Zambian audience demonstrate that African narratives transcend borders,” Rita Dominic expressed during her speech after the screening.

“This premiere transcends being just a film; it celebrates our collective history, culture, and the promising future of African cinema.” Executive Producer Prince Tonye Princewill added, “With ’77: The FESTAC Conspiracy, we delve deeper into history, enhanced by even greater cinematic brilliance. This film is a cultural awakening and a significant statement about the trajectory of African cinema.”

Following this successful evening, producers teased plans for a grand Homecoming Premiere that will return the blockbuster to its roots in Lagos, the very city where the historical FESTAC ’77 was held, promising an unforgettable nationwide celebration before it opens in theatres across the region.
