The accelerating adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, cloud technologies, and automated production systems is fundamentally changing how news is created, managed, and delivered. Recognising this industry shift, the Broadcasters Convention – West Africa 2026 will feature a high-level discussion on “The Future of Automated Newsrooms and Production Workflows.”
Taking place on 22-23 September 2026 in Accra, Ghana, the convention will bring together broadcasters, media executives, newsroom leaders, technology providers, regulators, and digital innovators to examine how automation is transforming media operations across Africa and around the world.
As audiences increasingly demand faster, more personalised, and multi-platform content experiences, broadcasters are under pressure to modernise their production environments. Automated newsroom systems, AI-powered content creation tools, intelligent archiving, automated editing solutions, and cloud-based production workflows are emerging as key technologies enabling broadcasters to meet these evolving demands.
The convention will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to assess how these technologies can enhance newsroom productivity, improve operational efficiency, support content discovery, and enable more agile broadcasting operations, while addressing concerns about ethics, accuracy, editorial oversight, and workforce adaptation.
Speaking ahead of the convention, Mr Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) and Convener of the event, said, “The broadcasting industry is entering a new phase where automation and AI are becoming central to how content is produced and distributed. While these technologies offer significant opportunities to improve efficiency and unlock new capabilities, they also require broadcasters to rethink workflows, skills development, and editorial governance. The convention will create a platform for meaningful dialogue on how African broadcasters can harness these innovations to strengthen their competitiveness and future readiness.”
Industry experts participating in the session will share practical insights into implementing automated production environments, lessons learned from digital transformation initiatives, and strategies for building future-ready newsrooms that operate across television, radio, digital, and streaming platforms.
The discussion is expected to generate valuable insights for broadcasters seeking to balance innovation with trust, speed with accuracy, and automation with human creativity.
The Broadcasters Convention – West Africa 2026 continues to serve as a leading platform for exploring the technologies, business models, and policy developments shaping the future of broadcasting across the African continent.
