Nigeria: Kebbi State Governor To Commission New LEAD 91.1 FM Radio Station

Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, is set to officially commission the newly established LEAD 91.1 FM Radio Station in Birnin Kebbi on 11 August 2026, marking another milestone in the expansion of private broadcasting in northern Nigeria.

The station is owned by Optimal Image Media Services, chaired by Alhaji Shuaibu Yusuf Mungadi. It is expected to strengthen access to news, information and community-focused programming across Kebbi State and neighbouring parts of Sokoto State.

With the addition of LEAD 91.1 FM, Optimal Image Media Services continues to grow its presence in Nigeria’s broadcast industry. The company already operates radio stations in Zamfara, Katsina and Abuja, together with 3rd Eye Africa Television, and sees the new station as another milestone in its regional expansion.

As Kebbi State’s sixth privately owned FM radio station, LEAD 91.1 FM is expected to serve audiences across the Gwandu and Argungu Emirates, while also extending coverage into the Yabo and Tambuwal local government areas of neighbouring Sokoto State.

LEAD 91.1 FM will launch with modern digital broadcast infrastructure and solar-powered operations, positioning the station for reliable transmission, quality programming and sustainable growth.

The investment supports Governor Idris’ drive to encourage indigenous entrepreneurs to invest in Kebbi State and contribute to local economic growth. Beyond expanding access to broadcasting services, LEAD 91.1 FM is expected to create jobs and strengthen the state’s growing media and communications sector.

Government officials, traditional leaders, members of the media and other stakeholders are expected to attend the commissioning ceremony, which will formally introduce LEAD 91.1 FM to listeners across the region.
