MBC Shahid has launched the Egyptian-Saudi drama “Daye: The Tale of Daye’s Family,” directed by Karim El Shennawy. The story centres on Daye, a 14-year-old Nubian albino boy blessed with a remarkable singing voice, who aspires to follow in the footsteps of his idol, the iconic Egyptian singer Mohamed Mounir.

Throughout his journey, Daye faces significant challenges, including discrimination due to his appearance and estrangement from his father. The narrative unfolds as Daye and his family embark on a challenging journey from Aswan to Cairo, motivated by the opportunity to audition for a prominent singing competition. Their travels are fraught with obstacles, such as financial struggles, theft, police encounters, and societal prejudice. However, they also experience unexpected moments of support, highlighting themes of resilience and familial bonds.

The cast features Badr Mohammad in the lead role, with notable performances by Aseel Omran, Islam Mubark, Haneen Saeed, and the legendary Mohamed Mounir, who portrays himself. The talents of additional actors, such as Ahmed Helmy and Mohamed Mamdouh, enrich the film.

Written by Haitham Dabbour, the film is a collaborative effort among producers Karim El Shennawy, Haitham Dabbour, Ahmed Youssef, Ahmad Badawi, and Faisal Baltyuor. The project signifies a meaningful partnership between Egyptian and Saudi production lines.

“Daye” has made an impact at several prestigious international film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival and the Red Sea International Film Festival, where it garnered attention for its heartfelt storytelling and socially relevant themes, showcasing the enduring power of music and dreams.
