In a significant advancement for Egypt’s home broadband landscape, Telecom Egypt, operating under the WE brand, has announced a partnership with Huawei to launch a new Fibre-to-the-Room (FTTR) service. This cutting-edge offering aims to deliver ultra-fast, reliable internet connectivity while ensuring extensive wireless coverage throughout residential areas.
Huawei’s advanced FTTR technology addresses prevalent connectivity challenges in large, multi-room, multi-story homes, such as weak signal areas, inconsistent speeds, and network congestion driven by the increasing number of connected devices. This solution is specifically tailored to meet the demands of smart home users, gamers, remote workers, and households reliant on high-speed, low-latency internet for their daily needs.
The FTTR service is designed to support next-generation digital lifestyles and entertainment, facilitating activities such as ultra-high-definition 4K and 8K video streaming, online gaming, remote work, and distance learning. Importantly, the infrastructure can handle multiple connected devices simultaneously without compromising network stability or performance.
The installation process for the new service is streamlined, minimising disruption within homes. Utilising intelligent network management and advanced optical technology, fibre cables can either be extended through existing home ducts or deployed using transparent sticky fibre cables, preserving the home’s interior aesthetics.
Mohamed Eltouny, Vice President and Chief Consumer Officer at Telecom Egypt (WE), stated, “The introduction of our FTTR service is a pivotal milestone in advancing digital services in Egypt. It underscores our commitment to providing innovative solutions that consistently surpass our customers’ expectations. We’re not just enhancing internet speeds; we are constructing an integrated in-home digital infrastructure that enables households to maximise the benefits of the latest global technologies.”
He further noted, “Launching FTTR in partnership with Huawei Egypt highlights the strength of our strategic alliance, allowing us to fast-track advanced technologies into the Egyptian market to enrich the customer experience for individuals and small to medium enterprises alike. This service delivers a robust, efficient, and stable infrastructure designed to keep in sync with the surging demand for digital services.”
Louis Lu, Deputy CEO of Carrier of Huawei Egypt, remarked, “Our collaboration with Telecom Egypt (WE) in launching the FTTR service marks a strategic achievement, demonstrating our joint commitment to advancing Egypt’s digital transformation in accordance with Egypt Vision 2030 while enhancing telecommunications infrastructure to meet global standards.”
He added, “With over 25 years of presence in Egypt, Huawei is dedicated to its vision of creating a fully connected and intelligent world. The significance of this technology extends beyond improving home connectivity; it lays the foundation for advanced connectivity solutions that benefit both households and SMEs. By providing ultra-high speeds, enhanced stability, and a more reliable user experience, we are well-equipped to address future demands and support the growth of Egypt’s digital economy.”
To promote the adoption of the new FTTR service, Telecom Egypt has announced that customers will enjoy around-the-clock technical support and professional installation provided by trained technicians, ensuring a seamless setup and activation experience.
