
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has officially appointed Vuyo Nyembezi as its group executive for technology, effective May 15, 2026. This decision follows a rigorous, competitive selection process.
Nyembezi has been serving as the acting group executive and has proven to provide solid leadership within the technology division during a critical transitional period, according to the SABC.
Bringing over 20 years of experience in broadcasting and operational technology, Nyembezi has held numerous leadership roles within the organisation, where he played a vital role in enhancing operational efficiencies, driving technology advancements, modernising infrastructure, and shaping strategic insights.
He holds a PhD in Business Management and an MBA, as well as extensive qualifications in executive development focused on strategy, innovation, and broadcast management.
SABC’s chief operating officer, Lungile Binza, acknowledged Nyembezi’s impressive leadership and dedication, stating, “His appointment showcases his strategic insights, deep institutional knowledge, and commitment to evolving the SABC into a digitally-enabled broadcaster.”
CEO Nomsa Chabeli highlighted that Nyembezi’s appointment underscores the organisation’s commitment to effective leadership and the transition towards a digitally proficient public broadcaster. “Let us congratulate Nyembezi on his new role and wish him every success,” she added.
In response to his appointment, Nyembezi emphasised the SABC’s significant role in the lives of South Africans and reiterated that technology will play a crucial part in delivering on its mission. “I am eager to collaborate with my colleagues across the organisation as we develop a digitally empowered and forward-looking public broadcaster,” he expressed.
In his new role, Nyembezi will spearhead the next chapter of the SABC’s digital transformation, ensuring the organisation is strategically poised for future success.
