Africa’s leading telecommunications provider, MTN Group, has succeeded significantly by surpassing 300 million customers across various markets.
This landmark announcement was made during the company’s Ambassadors Appreciation Dinner, where diplomats, government officials, and industry leaders gathered to celebrate this accomplishment and renew their commitment to promoting Africa’s digital evolution.
Ralph Mupita, president and CEO of MTN Group, described this moment as pivotal in the company’s pursuit of its Ambition 2025 objectives.
“The time is now for Africa to take control of its own socioeconomic development. We must seek internal solutions and invest in our local communities,” he stated.
Mupita praised MTN’s dedicated workforce, affectionately referred to as MTNers, for their contributions during the company’s annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care volunteer campaign.
“Tonight, we honour our Y’ello Care employee volunteers and draw inspiration from their proactive spirit. Thanks to their commitment, the Group has celebrated a strategic milestone, providing services to over 300 million customers just three decades after launching our first commercial operation in South Africa,” he noted.
The 2025 Y’ello Care campaign, themed “Connecting at the Roots: Connecting communities through digital tools,” demonstrated how the telecom giant’s employees empower communities through innovation and teamwork.
Nompilo Morafo, chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer at MTN Group, emphasised that Y’ello Care reflects MTN’s belief that everyone should access the advantages of a connected life.
“Progress is achieved through people, our ideas, dedication, and compassion. I extend my gratitude to MTNers, partners, and community collaborators who consistently make this belief a reality,” she remarked.
Regional MTN operations were also acknowledged for their outstanding initiatives during the celebration, including MTN Eswatini’s e-governance program “Government in Your Hand,” MTN Cameroon’s digital centres, and MTN Uganda’s solar-powered health and education projects.
Mupita further appreciated Africa’s diplomatic community for creating a favourable investment climate, reaffirming MTN’s commitment to supporting Agenda 2063’s vision of a connected, inclusive, and resilient Africa.
“Collaboration and purpose are the cornerstones of our progress. This milestone belongs to every African who envisions a brighter digital future.”
