In Ghana, the National Communications Authority (NCA) recently welcomed a three-member delegation from the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation for a one-day benchmarking visit at the NCA Tower in Accra.
Mr Rodney Thadeus Mbuya, the Ag. The Director of Information Services at Tanzania’s Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, led the delegation. Their visit aimed to explore how the Ghanaian government provides funding and support to its state broadcaster. This interest comes in light of the rapid advancements in technology and the evolving landscape of the broadcasting industry, which are crucial for maintaining the sustainability and relevance of public service broadcasters.
Dr Charles Amoah-Wilson, Director for Human Resources at the NCA, extended a warm welcome to the visitors on behalf of the Director General. He emphasised the significance of such exchanges in fostering collaboration among African institutions.
During their visit, NCA engineers guided the delegation through the Authority’s responsibilities within the broadcasting sector, focusing on critical areas like licensing, spectrum management, monitoring, and other regulatory measures that contribute to Ghana’s dynamic and competitive broadcasting environment.
This engagement served as an excellent opportunity for knowledge exchange and strengthened the ties between the two countries’ broadcasting sectors. Both parties recognised the importance of collaboration in addressing the emerging challenges and opportunities facing broadcast entities across the continent.
The NCA reaffirmed its dedication to supporting fellow regulators and stakeholders through initiatives aimed at capacity building, benchmarking visits, and sharing best practices to further Africa’s digital transformation agenda.
The Tanzanian team also included Mr Nestory Leonard Madirisha, Head of Planning and Investment, and Mr Juma Thomas, Principal Legal Officer from the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation.
