Uganda: MultiChoice Talent Factory Invites Aspiring Filmmakers To Apply For 2026 Training Cohort

The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) East Africa is excited to announce its call for applications from Uganda’s emerging filmmakers for the 2026 training cohort.

The application deadline is set for February 27, offering a unique opportunity for budding creatives to participate in a structured program backed by industry, designed to transform raw talent into professional skill sets.

MTF is a comprehensive year-long training initiative focused on film and television that addresses the skills gap in Africa’s creative sector. The program integrates classroom education with practical production experience, mentorship, and valuable industry exposure.

Graduates from the program walk away with tangible credits, expanded professional networks, and momentum for their careers. The training encompasses vital areas such as storytelling, directing, producing, cinematography, editing, audio, scriptwriting, and production management.

“Africa’s film and television scene is experiencing rapid growth, and there is an increasing demand for local content on platforms like DStv and GOtv,” remarked Rinaldi Jamugisa, PR and Communications Manager at MultiChoice Uganda. “The primary challenge we face is the lack of skilled talent. The MultiChoice Talent Factory aims to bridge this gap by providing young creatives with internationally recognised skills in all production aspects.”

Jamugisa highlighted the importance of applying to MTF as a pivotal move for any creative aiming to realise their full potential. “We have witnessed tremendous enthusiasm from young creatives throughout the region. With our current cohort training in Nairobi, this is a crucial time. The program seeks dedicated and ambitious creatives, equipping them with the tools they need to compete on a global platform.”

Since its launch in East Africa, MTF has trained numerous filmmakers from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and other locations. Many alumni have progressed to work on significant projects, gain awards, secure commissions, and cultivate networks that facilitate real opportunities in the industry.

MTF alumni have collectively produced over 40 films that have reached an audience of more than 12 million viewers, and have created numerous job opportunities for professionals, including sound designers, producers, and editors. Their works have been featured on platforms such as Showmax, Maisha Magic, and Africa Magic.

Currently, four Ugandan filmmakers—Giovanni Yona Namulya, Asiimire Owobushoborozi, Fredrik Mayiga, and Denzel Everd Maniple—are in Nairobi, receiving mentorship from industry experts and collaborating with peers across East Africa. Their participation in the program is paving the way for careers that could transform the region’s cinema landscape.
