A newly established film distribution company, Screen Connect has launched its first theatrical release with the Kenyan premiere of Over the Bridge, a Nigerian psychological thriller directed by Tolu Ajayi.
The film, starring Ozzy Agu, Segilola Ogidan, Joke Silva, Deyemi Okanlawon, Chimezie Imo, and Paul Adam, will be screened in cinemas across Kenya throughout June.
Set against the backdrop of Lagos’ elite financial sector, Over the Bridge follows Folarin, a successful investment banker whose life unravels when a major government project under his management goes awry. The film delves into themes of power, disillusionment, and the personal cost of ambition.
Over the Bridge received 12 nominations at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, securing Best Cinematography and Best Production Design accolades.
Screen Connect, founded in 2024 by Nigerian Cassandra Onwualu, Kenyan Marete Selvin, and Rwandan Mizero Kabano Yannick, is committed to addressing the fragmentation within African film distribution and ensuring quality African stories are accessible across regional markets.
“Despite growing global interest in African cinema, local audiences continue to face difficulties accessing content from neighbouring countries,” said Onwualu. “Screen Connect is here to change that — by building a network that supports filmmakers, showcases local talent, and strengthens intra-African distribution.”
According to director Ajayi, the film is rooted in personal experience. “The narrative was inspired by my teenage internship during Lagos’ financial boom, where I witnessed the complexities behind the corporate façade. This story is about what lies beneath success — the sacrifices and consequences,” he explained.
Over the Bridge is the first in a planned series of cross-border film releases under the Screen Connect banner.
