Guinea’s Haute Autorité de la Communication (HAC) on Monday, 21 September, banned 10 web TV services and two news websites from operating or broadcasting, citing a lack of the legally required authorisation for audiovisual activities.
The affected services are largely regional, including Yimbaya Medias TV in Conakry, Dabola TV, four services in Siguiri — Anelvision Web Media, Makono Médias, Mandeng Digital and Siguiri 24 Star TV — as well as Simandou TV in Kérouané, AK Médias in Kankan, Coyah TV and Kamanoyah TV in Guéckédou. The two banned websites are dabolainfo.com and guinee24plus.com.
The decision follows an HAC warning issued on 16 September giving web TV operators an opportunity to regularise their documentation. The regulator had also banned La Voix du Peuple on 29 August over similar licensing concerns.
The latest action comes days after the HAC ordered France 24 off all platforms in Guinea, reinforcing the regulator’s position that online video services fall within the country’s audiovisual licensing framework rather than operating outside formal broadcasting regulation.
