The Saudi-Egyptian action blockbuster Seven Dogs has surpassed US$24.6 million in worldwide box office revenue, cementing its status as one of the highest-grossing Arabic-language films ever produced while extending its successful theatrical run across the Middle East and international markets.
Since its release in late May, the film has consistently broken box office records. It delivered the biggest opening weekend ever for an Arabic-language film in Egypt, earning EGP 25.2 million on its first day to set a new single-day box office record. It went on to generate EGP 131.4 million during its opening week in the Egyptian market.
Produced by Sela Studios in partnership with the General Entertainment Authority, Seven Dogs is regarded as one of the most expensive Arabic-language films ever made, with an estimated production budget of US$40 million. The project is based on a story by Turki Alalshikh. It forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading regional and global centre for film production.
The film is directed by acclaimed Belgian-Moroccan filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, best known for their work on the Bad Boys franchise. The cast features Egyptian stars Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Ezz, alongside an international ensemble that includes Monica Bellucci, Giancarlo Esposito, Salman Khan, and Sanjay Dutt.
The story follows Interpol officer Khalid Al-Azzazi, played by Ahmed Ezz, who is forced to join forces with imprisoned crime boss Ghali Abu Dawood, portrayed by Karim Abdel Aziz, to prevent a powerful criminal syndicate from distributing a deadly synthetic drug throughout the region. The narrative unfolds across multiple international locations, featuring large-scale action sequences and high-production-value set pieces.
The production also attracted global attention for its ambitious stunt work, earning two Guinness World Records during filming. These included records for the largest film stunt explosion and the greatest quantity of high explosives used in a single cinematic take. 87Eleven, the renowned stunt team behind the John Wick franchise, designed the action sequences.
Beyond Egypt, Seven Dogs has posted impressive box office performances in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and other regional markets, becoming one of the highest-grossing Arabic-language releases in several territories. Its continued commercial success highlights the growing global appeal of large-scale Arab cinema and reflects the region’s increasing investment in producing internationally competitive film content.
