Competition is intensifying among digital streaming service providers as AI emerges as one of the most transformative technologies shaping how audiences discover, engage with, and consume content.

Recognising this shift, the Broadcasters Convention – West Africa 2026 will spotlight the growing importance of AI-driven content discovery and personalised user experiences as a key discussion during the event, taking place on 22 – 23 September 2026 at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra, Ghana.

Convened by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), the Convention will bring together broadcasters, streaming service providers, technology innovators, content owners and media executives from across the region to examine how artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing audience engagement and the future of digital content delivery.

The featured session, “The Role of AI in Content Discovery and User Experience on VOD Platforms,” will explore how AI is transforming the relationship between viewers and content by enabling streaming platforms to better understand audience behaviour, preferences and viewing habits. Rather than presenting viewers with vast catalogues of content, artificial intelligence is being rapidly used to create personalised journeys that connect audiences with relevant programmes quickly and intuitively, improving satisfaction and increasing platform engagement.

Viewers today expect platforms to anticipate their interests, provide accurate recommendations and deliver seamless navigation across multiple devices and services. Artificial intelligence is making this possible by analysing viewing patterns, search behaviour, engagement history and contextual signals to recommend content that is both timely and personally relevant.

Commenting on the significance of the topic, Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa and Convener of the Convention, said: “The future of streaming success will increasingly depend on how intelligently platforms connect audiences with content. Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming content discovery from a simple search function into a highly personalised viewing experience that strengthens audience engagement, improves customer satisfaction and creates new commercial opportunities.

The Broadcasters Convention – West Africa 2026 is the key platform for industry leaders to exchange insights, share practical experiences and explore the technologies driving the next generation of broadcasting and digital media innovation across West Africa and the continent.
