Tanzania: AzamTV Secures Broadcasting Rights For 2026 FIFA World Cup Across East Africa

AzamTV, a pay-TV broadcaster based in Tanzania, has secured the broadcasting rights for soccer’s prestigious 2026 FIFA World Cup in eight East African countries. This new agreement enables AzamTV to air all 104 matches live across Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda. Complementing the live coverage, the network will also provide additional programming featuring expert analysis throughout the tournament.

The World Cup is set to take place from June 11 to July 19, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and will feature an extended roster of 48 national teams.

This deal contributes to FIFA’s official broadcast partner lineup in Africa, where Togo-based New World TV obtained sub-Saharan broadcast rights for both the 2026 World Cup and the women’s 2027 edition last June. New World TV’s coverage includes 43 territories, including Angola, Cameroon, and Nigeria.

In South Africa, African sports media platform SportyTV has secured pay-TV rights for the tournament, planning to broadcast all matches via its OTT platform and mobile application. Additionally, public-service broadcaster SABC holds the free-to-air rights for the World Cup in South Africa, following a sub-license agreement with New World TV last December.

In Ghana, the government has also acquired broadcast rights for the tournament. This initiative will see the games aired live on selected media platforms within the country. The rights acquisition was partly funded by a US$442,789 contribution from GCB Bank, announced by Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams during a recent donation ceremony. Adams highlighted the importance of government support and fundraising efforts in securing these broadcast rights.

This year marks Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, with the national team, the Black Stars, placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. They will kick off their campaign against Panama in Toronto, Canada, on June 17, followed by matches against England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
