The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has introduced a new podcast designed to provide essential updates on the broadcasting industry. Titled “AirTime,” this weekly show will release new episodes every Wednesday morning, focusing on legislative and regulatory changes that affect local television and radio stations. The inaugural episode is now available, featuring a discussion on the importance of keeping live sports accessible on broadcast television.
“Local broadcasters are essential in keeping communities informed—whether it’s breaking news, severe weather updates, or vital democratic issues,” stated NAB Chief of Staff and Executive Vice President of Public Affairs, Michelle Lehman.
“AirTime connects these real-world impacts to the policy decisions crafted in Washington, highlighting what’s at stake. A strong local station translates to a stronger community.” “AirTime” aims to shed light on the policy decisions influencing the future of local broadcasting and their ramifications for community access to reliable news and emergency information. As the media landscape rapidly evolves, the podcast emphasises the crucial role broadcasters hold in serving their communities and advocates for supportive policies.
The debut episode includes insights from Jon Miller, President of Acquisitions and Partnerships at NBC Sports, in a discussion with John Ourand from Puck at the NAB Show. They delve into why broadcast television remains indispensable for live sports, particularly its unparalleled ability to attract large audiences to major events. The episode also navigates the ongoing policy discussions surrounding sports rights and the importance of ensuring games remain freely available over the air, alongside NAB’s Game On campaign.
Tune in to “AirTime” on your preferred podcast platform to keep abreast of the latest policy discussions shaping the broadcasting industry.
