Spotify Introduces Verification Badge To Differentiate Human Artists From AI Music

Spotify has unveiled a new verification system to help listeners identify human artists amid the rise of AI-generated music on streaming platforms.

The Swedish streaming giant will soon introduce a “Verified by Spotify” badge, symbolised by a green checkmark, which will appear on artist profiles and in search results. This badge will signify that an artist has undergone a review process and meets Spotify’s authenticity criteria.

This initiative seeks to enhance transparency in an era increasingly influenced by AI-driven music. To qualify for verification, artists must demonstrate consistent listener engagement, adhere to platform regulations, and maintain a credible presence beyond the streaming service.

To earn this badge, artists must demonstrate ongoing listener engagement, comply with Spotify’s rules, and maintain a real-world presence through concert performances, merchandise sales, and active social media profiles. Profiles that are primarily associated with AI-generated music or artificial personas will not be eligible for verification.

The company has stated that this initiative aims to build user trust in a music ecosystem increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. Spotify anticipates that over 99% of the most frequently searched artists will be verified at launch, encompassing hundreds of thousands of musicians worldwide, many of whom are independent creators.

Alongside the verification badge, Spotify plans to roll out an enhanced artist information section on all profiles. This feature will provide listeners with insights into an artist’s career milestones, release history, and live performance activities, offering a more comprehensive understanding of their professional journey.
