Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) has announced the launch of a new industry-wide survey titled “Content Delivery Platform & Services: Satellite + Fibre”, aimed at examining the rapidly evolving infrastructure landscape shaping media distribution across Africa.
As the continent experiences a significant shift in how content is delivered and consumed, the convergence of satellite and fibre technologies is redefining the future of broadcasting and digital media. While satellite continues to play a critical role in extending reach to remote and underserved regions, fibre networks are enabling high-speed, low-latency delivery in urban and peri-urban markets. Together, these technologies are forming a hybrid ecosystem that is unlocking new efficiencies and opportunities—while also introducing new operational and regulatory complexities.
The newly launched survey seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of how industry stakeholders are navigating this transformation. It will explore how satellite and fibre infrastructures are being integrated, the challenges affecting performance and scalability, and the strategies being adopted to ensure cost-effective and inclusive content delivery.
The study is designed to capture insights from a broad cross-section of the industry, including network and infrastructure operators, broadcasters, OTT platforms, telecommunications providers, technology vendors, regulators, investors, and academic institutions. By gathering diverse perspectives, the survey aims to build an accurate and representative picture of Africa’s content delivery ecosystem.
Key focus areas of the survey include mapping infrastructure deployment across regions, evaluating hybrid service delivery models, assessing quality of service and performance metrics, identifying access and coverage gaps, and analysing investment and cost dynamics. It will also examine regulatory and policy-related barriers that may be impacting the growth and interoperability of delivery platforms across borders.
Findings from the survey will be consolidated into a detailed industry report on the State of Content Delivery Infrastructure in Africa. The report will provide actionable insights, including an infrastructure landscape map, analysis of hybrid delivery models, investment recommendations, and policy guidance to support sustainable growth in the sector.
According to BMA, the initiative comes at a critical time, as Africa’s digital transformation accelerates and the demand for scalable, resilient, and inclusive content delivery systems is more urgent than ever. Industry stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the survey and help shape the future of content distribution across the continent.
