BMA Webinar: Building Robust AI Governance Frameworks For The Broadcast Media Industry

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the global media and broadcasting landscape, industry stakeholders are being called upon to proactively strengthen their compliance strategies to keep pace with rapidly evolving regulatory expectations.

This will be the focus of the upcoming high-level industry webinar, “AI and Broadcast Compliance: What Players Must Know About Emerging Regulations,” scheduled for Tuesday, 12 May 2026. The session will bring together regulators, legal experts, and broadcasting professionals to unpack the practical realities of governing AI deployment within media organisations.

A key topic under discussion, “Future-Proofing Your Compliance Strategy,” will explore how broadcasters can move beyond reactive compliance and instead implement forward-looking AI governance frameworks that anticipate regulatory shifts while supporting innovation.

As AI tools become increasingly embedded in content creation, distribution, and audience engagement, organisations face mounting pressure to ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical use. However, many broadcasters across Africa and other emerging markets are still in the early stages of developing structured internal AI policies.

Commenting ahead of the webinar, Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, emphasised the urgency of the issue, “AI adoption in broadcasting is accelerating faster than regulatory frameworks can keep up. This creates both an opportunity and a risk. Broadcasters must begin to self-regulate through robust internal governance policies that are flexible, ethical, and aligned with anticipated global standards. Those who act early will not only mitigate compliance risks but also build trust with audiences and regulators alike.”

The session will provide participants with actionable guidance on developing AI governance policies, including establishing internal oversight structures, defining accountability mechanisms, implementing risk assessment protocols, and aligning organisational practices with emerging global benchmarks.

In addition, discussions will highlight how broadcasters can strike a balance between regulatory compliance and innovation—ensuring that AI-driven transformation does not come at the expense of editorial integrity, data protection, or public trust.

With governments and regulatory bodies across Africa and globally intensifying their oversight of AI, the webinar offers a timely platform for industry players to prepare for the next wave of compliance requirements while positioning themselves for sustainable growth.
