Hulu has secured the adaptation rights to Liara Tamani’s novel “This Ain’t Our First Rodeo” and plans to develop it into a television series, Variety reported.
Originally published in February by Greenwillow Books, part of HarperCollins, the young adult novel presents a contemporary love story set against the backdrop of Houston’s rodeo scene. The book revolves around Josie and Shawn, who are reunited three years after their memorable first date, but their journey towards rekindled romance proves fraught with challenges.
“This Ain’t Our First Rodeo” marks Tamani’s fourth novel, following her well-received titles “Calling My Name,” “All the Things We Never Knew,” and “What She Missed.” She holds an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a BA from Duke University.
This announcement adds to Hulu’s growing list of young adult projects in development. The platform is also currently working on the series “Capsized,” based on the forthcoming book “Kill the Lax Bro,” and recently completed the college drama “Tell Me Lies,” which was inspired by the book of the same name. Other upcoming Hulu projects include “Phoney,” starring Sam Nivola and Connie Britton, and Mindy Kaling’s series “Not Suitable for Work,” which follows a group of recent college graduates in New York. In addition, Hulu is considering the drama pilot “Foster Dade,” produced by Greg Berlanti.
