Côte d’Ivoire: SES Teams Up With Africa Mobile Networks To Transform Rural Communication

Africa Mobile Networks (AMN) has partnered with SES, a global satellite operator, to enhance connectivity in Côte d’Ivoire by upgrading over 200 telecom sites. This initiative provides 2G and 3G mobile data services to more than 500,000 individuals in rural and previously underserved regions.

The upgrades, completed between May and June of this year, mark a significant achievement in the effort to create affordable communication infrastructure in remote areas. In addition to the site upgrades, AMN is constructing more telecom sites, bringing the total to 360 by year-end. The launch of their first 4G sites is slated for this month, promising to elevate mobile data access and overall user experience nationwide.

Furthermore, SES has bolstered satellite capacity for AMN to ensure faster, more reliable connectivity, addressing the growing demand for data services across West Africa.

As data consumption continues to rise, SES plans to further expand its capacity, supporting AMN’s ongoing network development and service improvements nationwide.

These enhancements not only provide internet access to remote areas but also empower local enterprises, farmers, and families through digital inclusion. Connectivity acts as a catalyst for economic development. By delivering dependable voice and data services to rural areas, we are enabling communities to discover new opportunities for education, commerce, and innovation,” stated Michael Darcy, CEO of AMN.

Jean-Philippe Gillet, President of SES’s Fixed and Maritime Vertical, remarked, “As a long-time partner of AMN, we firmly believe in the transformative effect of their initiatives. Their work is essential for bringing reliable connectivity to underserved and unserved communities across Africa.”
