In a historic achievement, South Africa has garnered five nominations at the 2025 International Emmy® Awards, marking the highest number of nominations for any African nation in a single year.

MultiChoice has received four of these nominations:

  1. Chasing the Sun 2 (SuperSport): An evocative documentary capturing the thrilling journey of the Springboks in the 2023 Rugby World Cup, allowing fans to relive their path to a fourth championship title.
  2. Koek (Showmax): This acclaimed Afrikaans crime drama is infused with humour, suspense, and unforgettable characters and is celebrated as the most awarded TV series at Silwerskerm 2024.
  3. School Ties (M-Net): This bold and impactful documentary illuminates the previously silenced stories of students, driving national dialogue and change.
  4. Catch Me a Killer (Showmax): A psychological thriller featuring Charlotte Hope as Micki Pistorius, South Africa’s pioneering serial-killer profiler, who has earned a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress.

Play Room Live adds a fifth nomination to this extraordinary list, making this achievement even more commendable.

Nomsa Philiso, MultiChoice’s Director of Content for General Entertainment in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments: “We are incredibly proud of our content teams and producing partners, whose creativity, passion, and dedication have led to a record-breaking four International Emmy nominations.”

She further noted, “These nominations signify a monumental moment for our industry, showcasing local narratives rich in cultural depth on a global platform like never before.”

With this remarkable feat, South Africa now ranks third worldwide, following the UK and Brazil, and has firmly established its storytelling prowess on the international stage. This moment is significant for a nation rich in creativity and cultural heritage.

The winners will be announced in New York City on Monday, November 24, 2025.
