In an unprecedented move, Lionsgate has teamed up with TikTok US to sell tickets for its highly anticipated John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, directly through TikTok Shop.
This innovative initiative allows US TikTok users to purchase tickets while attending a live stream of the film’s world premiere in the UK. Ballerina is slated for release on June 6.
Lionsgate claims this collaboration marks a significant milestone. It is the first time physical movie tickets have been sold via TikTok Shop in the United States.
Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, is set in the world of John Wick: Chapter 3. Thunder Road Films and 87eleven produced the film, directed by Len Wiseman and penned by Shay Hatten. The production team includes notable names such as Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski.
Dani Otero, EVP of paid media for Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We’re constantly exploring innovative ways to connect with moviegoers. Today’s audiences are predominantly on TikTok, and this integration allows us to enhance their experience and engage with fans in ways that have never been done before.”
Reia Davidson, TikTok’s vertical director of media and entertainment for global business solutions, remarked, “TikTok boasts a vibrant community of film enthusiasts who actively discover and engage with new titles and cultural phenomena. Lionsgate’s launch on TikTok Shop invites fans to experience Ballerina‘s premiere in a uniquely interactive and shoppable way, turning excitement within the app into theatre attendance.”
This collaboration signals a new era in film marketing, blending social media engagement with traditional ticket purchasing.
