Paratus South Africa, a connectivity provider, has recently extended its partnership with Eutelsat, a satellite operator, to include LEO satellite connectivity from Eutelsat OneWeb in its service offerings in South Africa.
The partnership will allow Paratus to provide a combined GEO/LEO service for businesses operating in remote parts of South Africa, particularly in retail, banking, mining, agriculture, and tourism industries.
Eutelsat OneWeb services have been integrated within Paratus’ core fibre network, which spans over 20,000 km across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Satellite Network Portals (SNP) for OneWeb have been activated in South Africa and Mauritius, with additional ground station sites expected to go live soon in Ghana and Angola. This is anticipated to strengthen network services and capacity across the region.
According to Cyril Dujardin, Eutelsat OneWeb co-GM, the adaptability and scalability of the Eutelsat OneWeb system make it a promising solution for the unique challenges faced by the African continent. Together with Paratus South Africa, they aim to redefine connectivity in the region and serve banking, mining, enterprise, and offshore markets, setting a benchmark for future communications excellence in South Africa.
