FilmOne Entertainment, Nigeria’s leading film distribution and entertainment company, has been selected as one of just six African buyers to participate in TIFF: The Market, the inaugural global film industry market launched by the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The company is the only Nigerian representative in the selected African cohort.
TIFF: The Market was launched alongside the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, held from September 10 to 16, 2026. The inaugural market brought together more than 130 buyers from 49 countries, creating a new international platform for film acquisition, sales and distribution.
The six African companies selected include FilmOne Entertainment of Nigeria; Filmfinity, Sun Africa Group, Forefront Media Group and Digicine Motion Pictures/Studios of South Africa; and Hakka Distribution of Tunisia.
FilmOne’s participation comes as African cinema, particularly Nollywood, continues to attract growing international interest from distributors, buyers and streaming platforms. Its presence at the Toronto market provides an opportunity to engage directly with international film sellers and explore new acquisition and distribution opportunities.
During the market, FilmOne’s team held meetings with international sellers and industry stakeholders, with discussions centred on acquiring new titles and developing distribution partnerships. Nollywood and African content remained an important focus as the company explored opportunities to take African stories to wider international audiences.
Commenting on its participation, FilmOne Entertainment said: “Nigeria has a seat at the table. From September 10 to 16 in Toronto, we’re here to buy, to build, and to keep opening the door wider for African cinema.”
