Cybastion Announces US$300 Million Digital Infrastructure Investment In Senegal

US technology company Cybastion is planning to invest approximately US$300 million in Senegal to develop data centres, strengthen cybersecurity and support technology transfer as the country accelerates its digital transformation.

The investment was announced in Washington, D.C., following a meeting between Cybastion President and CEO Dr Thierry Wandji and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye during the president’s working visit to the US.

Cybastion’s delegation also included Chief Strategy Officer André Biyong, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Scott Blacklin, Director of Operations Oscar Parlback and Government Affairs Coordinator Antonio Espirito Santo.

According to Senegal’s presidency, local start-ups will be directly involved in implementing the projects, with the aim of developing smaller technology companies, building skills and retaining more of the investment’s economic value within the country.

Faye said Senegal’s digital transformation should be measured by its impact on citizens, including faster public services, stronger data protection, skilled jobs and a more competitive local technology sector.

He said the partnership would help accelerate the country’s digital transformation and strengthen its technological sovereignty.

“You can’t sit on a gold mine and expect to be handed a handout,” Faye told the delegation, highlighting Senegal’s focus on partnerships that deliver commercial opportunities for investors while supporting national development priorities.

The investment comes as Senegal expands its digital infrastructure. Data-centre operator PAIX is developing a facility in Dakar, leveraging the city’s four submarine cable connections to strengthen its position as a regional connectivity hub.

The government is also advancing plans to establish a National Cybersecurity Authority and national CERT, with the proposed framework aimed at strengthening cyber resilience while supporting the growth of a domestic cybersecurity industry.

Cybastion’s planned investment therefore adds to Senegal’s broader push to expand data-centre capacity, connectivity, and cybersecurity capabilities, while building local expertise and positioning the country as a regional digital hub.
