As broadcasters and media organisations across Africa increasingly adopt artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, the industry conversation is moving beyond technology adoption to a critical business question: What measurable value is automation actually delivering?
This question will be explored at the upcoming Broadcast Media Africa webinar, “Smarter Workflows: How AI and Automation Are Transforming Content Production and Distribution,” taking place on Tuesday, 06 October 2026.
A central focus of the webinar will be “Measuring the ROI of Automation,” examining how broadcasters can assess the operational and financial impact of implementing smarter, AI-enabled workflows.
For media organisations facing growing content demands, fragmented audiences, rising production costs and increasing pressure to deliver content across multiple platforms, automation offers significant opportunities to improve efficiency. However, you can’t measure the success of an automation strategy simply by deploying new technology. Broadcasters need clear performance indicators that demonstrate whether these investments are producing tangible business outcomes.
The webinar will examine how organisations can measure automation through improvements in operational efficiency, cost savings, productivity and speed to market. It will also explore how broadcasters can assess reductions in manual processes and errors, improved workflow reliability, more efficient content production and repurposing, and faster distribution across television, digital, streaming and social platforms.
Beyond operational efficiencies, the discussion will focus on the financial dimension of automation. This includes how smarter workflows can increase content output, improve resource utilisation, create new monetisation opportunities, and strengthen revenue performance. Participants will also consider how to calculate the broader return on technology investments by weighing implementation, integration, training and maintenance costs against measurable gains.
Importantly, the session will address how broadcasters can avoid adopting AI and automation simply for innovation’s sake. Establishing the right KPIs before implementing new systems will be essential to determine whether an automation initiative delivers genuine business value.
“Automation should not simply be about doing things faster. The real question is whether it enables broadcasters to operate more efficiently, produce better content, reach audiences more effectively and ultimately strengthen their commercial sustainability,” said Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa.
He added: “For broadcasters investing in AI and automation, being able to demonstrate measurable ROI will become increasingly important. Organisations need to understand where automation is creating value, where it is reducing costs, and where it is opening new growth opportunities.”
The webinar will also examine how AI and automation are transforming the wider content lifecycle, from production and post-production to content management, metadata creation, scheduling, repurposing and multi-platform distribution. Industry experts will share insights into how broadcasters can build smarter workflows that combine technology, people and processes to improve both operational performance and commercial outcomes.
The session is expected to bring together broadcasters, media executives, technology providers, content producers, operations professionals, and digital media leaders for a practical discussion on how the industry can move from AI experimentation to measurable, sustainable business impact.
