Nigeria: Clean Beat 91.5FM: NDLEA Launches Radio Station To Combat Substance Abuse And Promote A Drug-Free Community

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently launched Clean Beat 91.5FM, a specialised radio station designed to enhance anti-drug initiatives and foster a drug-free community through proactive public engagement.

At the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa emphasised that achieving a lasting solution to substance abuse requires more than just law enforcement efforts like arrests and imprisonment.

Marwa stressed that the battle against drug abuse must focus on reducing demand and combating the misconceptions that draw young people into addiction.

“That is the very reason Clean Beat 91.5 FM was established. In today’s rapidly changing digital world, radio remains an unparalleled resource. It is personal, it is immediate. It breaks down barriers and connects directly with people in their homes, during commutes, in bustling marketplaces, and in their quiet moments,” he stated.

The NDLEA Chairman acknowledged that this significant achievement was made possible through the steadfast support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He also expressed gratitude to international partners and the dedicated NDLEA team, who worked diligently to turn this vision into a broadcasting reality.

In a message of support, Mr Cheikh Touré, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Representative, praised Marwa for recognising the potential of radio as a powerful advocacy tool.

Also addressing the audience, Mr Charles Ebuebu, Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), lauded the agency’s leadership under Marwa’s insightful guidance for this outstanding initiative. He noted that the launch of Clean Beat 91.5 FM signifies much more than the introduction of another radio station.
