Radio Broadcasters Convention 2026 – Unlocking The Role Of Podcasting In Africa’s Evolving Media Ecosystem

As audio consumption habits continue to evolve across the continent, the upcoming Radio Broadcasters Convention – Africa 2026 will spotlight one of the industry’s most dynamic growth areas: “Unlocking the Podcasting Economy: Strategies for Production, Distribution, and Monetisation.”

Scheduled for 01 – 02 July 2026 at The Venue, Green Park in Johannesburg, South Africa, the convention will bring together broadcasters, content creators, platform operators, and technology innovators to explore how podcasting is reshaping Africa’s audio and media landscape.

Podcasting has rapidly emerged as a powerful extension of traditional radio, offering new opportunities for storytelling, audience engagement, and revenue generation. However, while global markets have matured, Africa’s podcasting ecosystem still presents untapped potential—alongside unique challenges around discoverability, infrastructure, and sustainable monetisation.

This timely session will unpack practical strategies for building scalable podcast operations. Discussions will explore how broadcasters and independent creators can develop high-quality, locally relevant content while maintaining cost-effective production workflows. The conversation will also examine the role of data and audience insights in shaping content strategies that resonate with increasingly digital-first listeners.

Equally critical will be the focus on distribution. With audiences fragmented across multiple platforms, speakers will address how to optimise reach through streaming services, social media, and emerging audio platforms, ensuring content is both accessible and discoverable across diverse African markets.

Monetisation will form a core pillar of the discussion. From advertising and sponsorship models to subscription services and branded content partnerships, the session will highlight viable revenue pathways for podcasters and broadcasters alike. Attention will also be given to the importance of measurement, analytics, and demonstrating value to advertisers in a competitive digital ecosystem.

The session reflects a broader industry shift, where radio is no longer confined to traditional airwaves but is increasingly integrated into a multi-platform, on-demand audio environment. For African broadcasters, podcasting represents not only a diversification strategy but also a critical avenue for future growth.

Commenting on the importance of the topic, Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, said, “Podcasting is redefining how audiences engage with audio content. For African broadcasters and creators, the opportunity lies in harnessing this format to extend reach, deepen audience connection, and unlock new revenue streams. This session is designed to provide practical insights into how the industry can fully participate in the growing global podcast economy.”

The Radio Broadcasters Convention – Africa 2026 will serve as a key platform for industry stakeholders to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore innovations shaping the future of radio and audio across the continent.
